Netlify CEO Mathias Biilmann (n.b. this site is hosted with Netlify) gave a talk at Smashing Conference in San Francisco last week. This is not only a great discussion of the need for and growth of the static web stack, but Mathias has really encapsulated the bigger picture that static sites and apps fit into with what he describes, compellingly, as the “JAM (Javascript, APIs, and Markup) Stack.”

This is the JAM Philosophy:

Decouple Building and Hosting
Decouple Front-end and Back-end
APIs rather than databases
Pre-baked Markup, enhanced with JS
